Days to maturity - 105 days
Days to germination - 7-14 days
Fruit - 8-10"
Lagenaria siceraria
Sow: Indoors 2-3 weeks before last frost or direct seed after last frost 1’’ deep. We prefer to direct seed it into the ground so that the roots are not disturbed.
Harvest: When fruit is ripe and leaves have turned brown
Produced on the farm, we originally got these seeds from the Potager Ornamental de Catherine in Saint-Appollinaire, Quebec. This delicious fruit can get up to 1.5m long and is better eaten when at around 2'. The flavour is nutty and light but distinct for sure. We are happy to add this to our collection and will probably be growing it for a while. Will need support if you don't want it to crawl everywhere. When left on the ground, it curls up, so it does make it a little harder to cut. We found it looks like a whole family of snakes!
